The History of All Saints Church

In 1849 Christ Church Macclesfield opened a mission school on Crompton Road to serve the local community. It later became the responsibility of St Michael’s and All Angels, the main town centre church, and became a licensed mission hall known as St Andrew’s (a daughter church of St Michael’s). The school closed in 1970 and the buildings were purchased by the congregation giving the total building complex over to church and community use. In 1972 St Andrew’s, St Michael’s and St Peter’s churches formed a group ministry.
In 1983, Christ Church closed and many of its congregation joined St Andrews prompting a renaming of the church to All Saints. In 1985 All Saints became part of the Macclesfield Team Parish together with St Michael’s and St Peters. In 1987 the first rebuilding work took place, this consisted of a new kitchen and entrance hall. In 1995 All Saints was consecrated as a parish church; St Barnabas joined the team in 2002. In 2010, as part of a move to build local lay leadership and responsibility, we changed from a Team Parish to a Team Ministry with four parishes; and finally, in 2012 the second rebuilding work began, knocking down the old school toilets and creating a new kitchen and disabled access toilets.
